Video: Still Life with Game Bird and Dice (Oil)

While the union vote for Amazon workers was still in the news, it seemed a good time to post a video for my letterpress printed book/paper sculpture, Still Life with Game Bird and Dice (Oil). When I made the book in 2015, I posted the process here

As a recap: It was inspired by the union campaign, "Fight for Fifteen" (a rally was held on Four/Fifteen/Twenty-fifteen), meant to draw attention to food service and other underpaid workers and advocate for raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour. I was involved in union work for adjunct professors at the time.

The front image, a reduction linoleum cut, is a riff on a 1602 still life by Juan Sánchez Cotán, and the back image, well, it's a rubber chicken. The structure, modified from Hedi Kyle's fishbone fold, plays with borders and boundaries as the images and text spill over from page to page. The design came in a dream.
