Art Quiltlet: Landescape: Approaching Lavender

Once it starts, it doesn't stop. I see every flower as a French knot. First came poppies, now lavender. Another of my very small scrap quilts in a series I call "landescapes." This one is named after the Gordon Lightfoot song, "Approaching Lavender," which I kept hearing in my head as I worked.

First pieced, then free-motion quilted, then French knots, a little running stitch embroidery, and finally the binding, which I believe is leftover binding from my 2021 art quilt, "In the Shadow Of Wings."

I am partial to the smell of dried lavender and keep some on my desk to breathe deeply. I remember that someone gave me a bundle of lavender just after my young son died in 2003, meant as a comfort.
