The cold and rain finally came, which meant that our California trees shed their December leaves. Liquidambar trees are prevalent in my neighborhood, and their bright orange and red leaves hide the bright green seed pods, until they all fall down. I still collect them, then let them go, year after year. My friend calls the pods “morningstars,” which prompted me to unearth a stencil I had made in the previous century. My stencil library keeps growing like the trees.
Seed Pods (Liquidambar)
5.5"w x 22.25"h (13.5 cm x 56.5 cm)
Stencil on linen; Japanese woven cotton; interfacing; hand and machine quilted
Details:
Hand quilted with "seed stitch"
This quilt, more of a table runner, perhaps, has interfacing in the central layer rather than cotton batting, which makes it thinner.
