Art Quilt: Beginning with Daffodils

Daffodils are on my mind. They are one of the first flowers to bloom, awakening us to the coming of spring. Also, Trader Joe’s gets bundles of inexpensive daffodils, and I always buy a bunch, now just opening on my dining room table.

A scrap bag of yellow pigmented linen said, “Daffodils! Pick me!” And so I did.

I still had some multicolored, hand-dyed cotton from Velma Bolyard that I included.

I’m starting to understand that my current practice can be shaped from the beginning, even when I don’t know how exactly it will look when it is finished. I think about main color and background color and accents as well as shapes and forms. The central focus of the daffodil is its center, but it has triangular petals around the edges, with lines of green leaves in contrast with the sunny yellow color.
