Art Quilt: Driving Off the Hawk

I’m continuing the process of reworking and remaking old works into new quilted pieces. This one originated with a loose abstract acrylic-ink painting on muslin of houses and glowing windows, painted so long ago I have forgotten when I made it. After laying it out with its batting and backing, then stitching it, and cutting into larger pieces than usual, I noticed too many white pieces and determined the quilt would need a focal point. I added stenciled crows, reserving some, and letting others move to the next level. I’ve seen crows mobbing a hawk to drive it out of their territory, so that is what this quilt became.
