Art Quilt in "Americana Reimagined" at Petaluma Arts Center

It is still very hot here in California, but our air-conditioned car took us about forty minutes north to visit my quilt, Cherry Type Pie,  and see the full exhibit at Petaluma Arts Center, Americana Reimagined. As an ensemble, I think it is a good show, representing a variety of takes on American life or commentary thereof, and a variety of media as well: photography, printmaking, assemblage, word art, needlepoint, book art, painting, textiles, sculpture, you got it all. Different segments of society were presented, as well as the usual interpretations of American flags, money, and postage stamps. Three awards were given out, but my friends and I had a hard time deciding which pieces we would give awards to, if it were up to us.

The space appears to have been part of an old train depot, noted on their website as "Railroad Depot Freight Building,"and a train does still run by and stop here. You could stop there too! The exhibit is on view until April 18, 2026. Hours are Thursday - Sunday, 12-4pm. Closed Easter Sunday. Address: 230 Lakeville St. Petaluma, CA. An adjoining exhibit, "States of Anxiety, States of Hope" is work by Inez Storer, a wonderful painter and collage artist.
