Art Quilt: Safe Travels

The way birds flying overhead get smaller and smaller, fading into the sky. The way some people come into your life and leave again, fading into memory. The way words, spoken in air, disappear. Hand-dyed gray-green cotton and a tiny poem came together with a contemporary look at the “flying geese” pattern. Murmurs fade / into the mist / sky-kissed.

Safe Travels
10"w x 33.5"h (25.5 cm x 85 cm)
Hand-dyed cotton; letterpress printing from wood type; scraps; free-motion and machine quilting; machine joining; metallic gold seed beads

Details:

The free-motion quilting spells "safe travels" repeatedly.
Each flying "bird" triangle is hand stitched first.

Seed beads follow the curve of the jagged flight.

The tiny poem at the bottom can be puzzled out by following one row of triangles at a time.

And the back

Safe Travels.
